Tendon and overuse

Tendon and overuse

Care for the calf, Achilles, hip and knee complaints that build with mileage. We change the load, strengthen what is weak and adjust your running around it.

Is this for you

This care is for you if

  • It builds across weeks

It is not one bad step. It grew with the training.

  • It is worse at the start of a run

It eases once you are moving, then returns afterward.

  • You have stopped running to rest it

It returned when you started again, and you want a plan that holds.

  • You want to keep training

You would like to know what you can still do while it settles.

What a visit looks like

What happens when you come in

  1. 01

Step 1: We listen to your training

Your weeks, your shoes, your surfaces and what changed before it began.

  2. 02

Step 2: We test and load

We find which movements bring it on and test the strength and capacity of the tendon and the muscles around it.

  3. 03

Step 3: We build a loading plan

Exercises you do in the right amounts, with your running adjusted instead of stopped, wherever that is reasonable.

Good to know

Who treats you, how long it takes, how it is paid for

  • Who treats you

A licensed physical therapist: Trinidad Espino or Ezekiel Ivey. Their license lines are in the footer of every page.

    Meet the team
  • What decides how many visits

How long it has been building, how it responds to load, what you are training for and how near your next race is. We say at each visit what comes next.

  • How it is paid for

We bill most PPO plans and Medicare, and the front desk checks your benefits before you come in. If you pay yourself, you get a written estimate first.

    How fees work

When to see a doctor first

See a physician first, or call 911, if you have chest pain or trouble breathing, a sudden severe headache, numbness in the groin or loss of bladder or bowel control, a new weakness in a leg, or a fall or blow that could have broken a bone. If we find something at your visit that needs a physician, we tell you and help you get there. A sudden pop, a gap you can feel in a tendon or a calf that is hot, swollen and painful all need a physician first.

Questions

Common questions

Will it hurt?

We work within what you can tolerate. Some tests bring on the feeling you came in with, and you can stop any step.

How many visits will I need?

We cannot say before we have met you. What decides it: what we find in your assessment, what you are training for, how your body responds and how close your next race is. We tell you at each visit what comes next.

Do you offer dry needling?

Where state law allows it, a physical therapist who has completed dry needling training can offer it, and Arizona allows it with that training. Ask which of our therapists needles and which course they took. We explain the risks before any needle, and you can say no.

Book your running assessment

Tell us what you are training for. We will find a time that fits around your runs.
